Saw Au has 2 strings which give an alto tone; the body length is about 79 centimeters and its bow has 70 centimeters long using horsetail approximately 160-200 hairs; the base made of hard coconut shell with front width 13-14 centimeter and covered with calf leather. This instrument became widely known in the reign of King Rama IV.
